Manchester United announced on Friday that striker Marcus Rashford will undergo shoulder surgery.
Rashford suffered shoulder problems in the final stages of the 2020-2021 season and played a limited role with England, who reached the European Championship final before losing to Italy.
"After consultations between Marcus, the coach, the team's medical staff and specialists, the player will undergo urgent surgery to resolve the shoulder problem," United said in a statement. "Marcus will focus on his rehabilitation program in order to return as soon as possible."

United did not reveal how long the player might be out, but the BBC reported earlier this month that the 23-year-old could be out for 12 weeks and therefore not take part in the start of the new Premier League season.
Rashford's absence from the start of the new season will deal a severe blow to coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is seeking to compete for the title after finishing second last season.
United will start their campaign in the new season against Leeds United at Old Trafford on August 14.
