Italy and Germany are seeking to move the Euro 2020 final from London due to Corona
The German and Italian governments warned Monday against holding the final round of the European Nations Championship (Euro 2020) in the British capital, London, due to the outbreak of a new strain of the emerging Corona virus (Delta).
"I will personally intervene so that the final is not held in a country with the highest risk of infection with the emerging coronavirus," Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during a working visit to the German capital.
For its part, the German government has reminded repeatedly these days of the explicit recommendation not to travel, if not necessary, to the United Kingdom, which does not receive tourist flights or fans to attend the Euro matches.
In her speech, Merkel indicated that "the two countries are very careful about the epidemic," adding that the current development is "encouraging" in both Germany and Italy, which were the countries most affected by the coronavirus in its early stages.
However, Merkel noted that this development is "fragile", citing the current situation in the United Kingdom or Portugal in the face of the expansion of the new fierce dynasty (Delta).
Bavaria was proposed as an alternative to host the final of the tournament in the event of a deterioration in the situation in Britain, while the head of the state government, conservative Markus Söder, confirmed that "Munich is ready" to host this event.
