Facebook and Instagram block Trump's account for 24 hours
Facebook said on Wednesday: "It prevented President Trump from posting on the site for 24 hours." This decision comes after the company removed the posts it had published in support of the pro-gangs that attacked the US Capitol building.
According to the technical site "theverge", the technology giant said in a statement: "We have assessed violations of the policy against President Trump's page, which leads to a ban on all features for 24 hours, and that he loses the ability to post through the platform during that time."
Adam Mosseri, president of Instagram, confirmed that Trump's account on the photo and video sharing platform owned by Facebook will also be closed for 24 hours.
And earlier on Wednesday, Facebook removed a video clip posted hours after the attack began, in which Trump called on protesters to return home and falsely stated that an election was stolen from us, and the tech giant also removed a text post asking his supporters to "remember this day forever."
Meanwhile, Twitter suspended Trump's account on its platform for 12 hours after it removed three tweets and said: “It represents serious violations of its policies, and threatened to impose a permanent ban on the account of the US President.
The three tweets on the account of the outgoing US President included repeated and serious violations of the civil integrity policy, and the company that owns the Global Blogging site said: "It will have to permanently suspend the account if the violations continue, and it will not be opened unless Trump completely deletes the three offensive tweets."
