The Mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, was very clear: he does not want Kanye West in his city. He stated that Marseille should never be a place for people who promote hate or Nazi ideas.
While French laws make it hard to cancel a concert unless there is a threat of violence, the pressure from the government and the Mayor made it impossible for the show to go on. Kanye says he needs time to show everyone he is trying to "fix what happened."
