Eddie Murphy Reveals He Had OCD Since He Was a Child
👀 A Secret Struggle From His Childhood
Hollywood star Eddie Murphy, now 64 years old, shared a very personal story in his new Netflix documentary “Being Eddie.” He said that he suffered from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) when he was a young boy living in New York.
Murphy explained that he had symptoms of OCD but did not know what it was at the time. He said he used to check the kitchen stove again and again every night:
“I checked if the gas was off… then I went to bed… and came back again to check. I did this for almost an hour every night.”
He also said that his family did not understand what he was going through: “My mom didn’t know anything about it. And I made strange sounds while watching TV, like ‘hmm… hmm…’.”
✨ When Eddie Finally Understood His Problem
Murphy said he discovered the truth about himself when he watched a TV report about OCD:
“They were talking about OCD… and I said: that’s what I do! But then they said it’s a mental illness, and I said: no, that can’t be me. So I forced myself to stop.”
Even today, Eddie admits that some habits still remain:
“I still check the gas every night. But if I check twice, I tell myself: stop it now… go to bed.”
