Death toll from Italian ferry fire in Greece rises to 8
The Greek coast guard announced today (Friday) that the death toll from the Italian ferry fire off the Greek island of Corfu has risen to 8, while the search is still underway for 3 missing persons.
The fire broke out on the Euro Ferry Olympia at dawn on February 18, near the island of Corfu, shortly after leaving the Greek port of Igoumenitsa, heading to the Italian city of Brindisi.
Most of the passengers were evacuated within an hour, but a number of truck drivers were still missing.
