Ronaldo was in the United squad for the Villarreal match in the second round of the Champions League group stage, which ended with the English team winning 2-1.
According to the Opta statistics network, Ronaldo played the 178th match in the Champions League, surpassing Iker Casillas, the legendary goalkeeper of Real Madrid, as the most participant in the European Championship.
Casillas is now in second place with 177 games, while Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi is third with 151 games, equal to Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez.
