Bird park.. Angela Merkel prepares for retirement with funny pictures
As Germany's election campaign heated up, Chancellor Angela Merkel was busy with something else. birds and parrots.
The German legislative elections will be held next Sunday, without Merkel, who decided to retire voluntarily at the end of the current legislative period.
In the last days of the election campaign, the conflict is intensifying between the Social Democratic Party, which leads the race in opinion polls, and the ruling Christian Union, which comes second.
In this context, on Thursday, Merkel visited the Marlowe Park Bird Park, located in her constituency, and took funny pictures.
During the visit, entire flocks of brightly colored parrots fluttered around Angela Merkel and ate from her hand, and even one of the parrots stood on her head.
In her hand was a small paper cup filled with dried pollen, fruit sugar, grain and water, to feed the birds.
Ahead of Sunday's general election, Merkel made the visit in her traditional district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as a farewell tour.
Although Merkel was preoccupied with birds and parrots, she was careful in dealing with the owl and did not want to carry the owl, which is about 60 cm high and has large eyes.
"No. You've done well with the parrots," Merkel said in response to the workers' request to carry the owl.
Then CDU candidate George Gunther, 33, grabbed the owl.
Gunther wants to inherit Merkel's seat in this constituency, which the chancellor has held since the 1990s.
