The 23-year-old "Kisho" began his campaign on Tuesday in the eighth-finals of the 67-kg weight category, defeating the South Korean Hansoo Ryu 7-6, and then overtaking the Armenian Karen Aslanyan in the quarter-finals with points (7-7).

In the semi-finals, he was close to qualifying for the title match and at least guaranteeing a silver by advancing over Ukrainian Parviz Nasipov, but the latter overturned his delay to win 7-6.

The son of Alexandria started wrestling at the age of five, and in 2019 he was named the best wrestler under the age of 23 by the World Amateur Wrestling Federation.

This is Egypt's third medal in the current Olympics after the bronze medals for Taekwondo by Seif Issa (80 kg weight) and Hedaya Malak (57 kg weight).

It is also the eighth medal for Egypt in Greco-Roman wrestling, after Ibrahim Mostafa’s gold in light heavyweight in 1928, silver by Mahmoud Hassan in cock weight, bronze in Ibrahim Orabi in light heavyweight in 1948, bronze in Abdel-Aal Rashid in featherweight in 1952, silver by Othman El-Sayed in flyweight in 1960, then gold Karam Jaber weighed 96 kg in 2004 and silver at 84 kg in 2012.
