Melania Trump criticized for destroying American history
Former First Lady Melania Trump responded to a historian who criticized her Rose Garden renovation last year, calling his comments misleading and dishonest before questioning his credibility.
Former US First Lady Melania Trump has received criticism from a historian who accused her of destroying American history by redesigning the Rose Garden at the White House.
Author and presidential biographer Michael Bichlos infuriated Melania after he tweeted that her landscaping business is bleak and decades of American history disappear.
Melania responded to that post angrily and indicated that the photo in his tweet showed the garden before the work was finished, and said that the historian had "proved his ignorance" and accused him of "shame".
"The Rose Garden is adorned with healthy and colorful roses, he should never be trusted as a professional historian," the White House Rose Garden has long been a project for Melania, according to the Daily Mail.
Before leaving the White House, Melania revealed her plans to renovate the area in August of last year and announced that it would be a throwback to honor the original design.
The plans were a reference to the original design by Builder Mellon, at the personal request of President John F. Kennedy in the early 1960s.
But it was not without controversy and White House Rose Garden watchers were furious when Melania decided to remove the apple trees that had been there for more than half a century.
Officials defended the move, claiming that the trees were leaving too much shade and preventing other flowers from growing.
