Dutch runner Sivan Hassan wins gold in the 5000m
Dutch runner Sivan Hasan successfully started her journey towards a historic triple, after winning the gold in the 5000m race in athletics, on Monday, at the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo until August 8.
Hassan, 28, who intends to win the 1500m and 10,000m titles also in a historic precedent, scored 14:36.79 on the wet track at the Olympic Stadium, against two-time world champion Helen Obiri of Kenya (14:38.36 m) and Ethiopia's Godaf Tsegai (14:38.87). Dr).
The Ethiopian runner, the world champion in the 1500m and 10,000m, topped her group and qualified in the morning for the 1500m semi-finals. She tripped with another competitor's foot and fell on her shoulder before getting up and fighting valiantly for first place.
The 5000m race witnessed African domination in the last four editions, with the crowning of 3 female runners from Ethiopia and a fourth from Kenya, before bringing Hassan the title to Europe.
Without world record holder Letsenbet Gede focused on the 10,000m race, Hassan waited until the last lap to comfortably clear the rest of the competition, crossing the line with her orange jersey on a rainy day on the red track in Tokyo.
