Switzerland's Belinda Bencic makes history and wins women's singles gold
Swiss Belinda Bencic won the women's singles gold in the tennis competitions at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday, after defeating Czech Marketa Vondrushova 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in the final.
Bencic awarded Switzerland its first gold medal in the women's singles, 29 years after the title won by its compatriot Marc Rosset in the men's category. Bencic also qualified for the doubles final with Viktoria Golubic in pursuit of the double on Sunday.
