Pope Francis recovers from intestinal surgery
Pope Francis spent his first morning recuperating Monday in a Rome hospital after having intestinal surgery.
The Vatican gave brief details of the operation carried out on Sunday evening at Gemelli Polyclinic, a major Catholic hospital in the Italian capital.
The Vatican is expected to issue two daily statements on the situation of Pope Francis, with the first to be issued later this morning, Monday.
The Vatican said on Sunday evening that Francis, 84, had responded well to surgery in the lower part of the colon.
The Pope had a narrowing of the sigmoid part of the large intestine.
