Corona hits the Algerian mission in Tokyo Two athletes in the Algerian delegation participating in the Tokyo Olympics were confirmed to be infected with the new Corona virus, while suspicions surround two others.

Sources in the Algerian mission said on Sunday that the coronavirus test that runners Jamal Sajati (800 meters) and Bilal Thabeti (3,000 meters barriers) underwent came back positive.

The same source revealed that the aforementioned athletes will be subject to a 14-day quarantine in a hotel outside the Olympic Village, which means that they will not participate in the Olympics.

The same source indicated that suspicions surround two other runners, Yassin Hathat (800m) and Hisham Bouchisha (3,000m steeplechase), noting that the aforementioned quartet had undergone a coronavirus test in Turkey before traveling to Tokyo, where the results were negative.

The cyclist, Youssef Raqiqi, was infected with the Corona virus while preparing to travel to Tokyo from Istanbul, to be the first Algerian athlete to miss the Olympics due to the pandemic, and to be compensated by his colleague Hamza Mansouri, who withdrew with his compatriot Ezzedine Laqab from the road race competition.
