New York Court Revokes Trump Lawyer Rudy Giuliani's Lawyer License
A US appeals court has banned New York law firm Rudy Giuliani for making false statements while trying to persuade a court to annul the defeat of former US President Donald Trump in last November's presidential election.
In its memo on suspending Giuliani's license, a disciplinary panel said there was "conclusive evidence" that Giuliani had made false statements to courts, public opinion and lawmakers while advancing theories of election fraud.
"This country has been torn apart by the continued attack on the legitimacy of the 2020 elections and on our current president, Joseph R. Biden. "The imprint of our democracy is visible on free and fair elections," she said. False statements aimed at losing confidence in our elections and resulting in a loss of confidence in the government generally destroy the proper functioning of a free society.”
The ruling signed today, Thursday, will prevent Giuliani from representing clients as a lawyer.
Giuliani was the main mouthpiece of Trump's claims after the 2020 election, standing at a news conference outside the headquarters of Four Seasons Total Landscaping outside Philadelphia on the day Biden's victory was announced and saying he would challenge what he called a massive conspiracy by Democrats.
Allegations surrounding the 2020 election helped provoke an angry mob of Trump supporters to storm the US Capitol on Jan. 6 in a shocking effort to prevent President Biden's victory from being certified. Since then, Republicans have used that lie to demand stricter voting laws across the United States.
