According to timesofindia and UStoday, this celebration comes to commemorate the opening of the Santa Monica Historical Museum - on this day in 2015 - a special exhibition entitled "Love, Shirley Temple", which includes a collection of her rare memorabilia.

Today's Google doodles feature "Shirley Temple" as a diplomat, award-winning actress, and dancing girl.

Google says in her homage: "Shirley captivated the nation when she landed a role in the musical Stand Up And Cheer in 1934."

Shirley Temple's life

Shirley Jane Temple was born on April 23, 1928 in Santa Monica, California, and began dancing lessons at the age of three.

Shirley starred in twelve films all released in 1934 alone, including "Bright Eyes", performing what became one of her most famous routines, "On the Good Ship Lollipop".

Before she was even ten years old, Temple was one of the most popular actors in American cinema - she even became the first child star to win an Academy Award when she was just six!

At the age of 22, Shirley Temple retired from the film industry as a Hollywood icon.

In 1958, Temple chronicled Shirley Temple's Storybook, a children's television series adapted to family-friendly stories — sometimes even filmed live.

Material and moral gains for Temple

As a child star, she was earning $1,000 a week and receiving 16,000 fan letters a month.

Temple goes into politics

After retiring from the film industry in her twenties, Temple became more politically active. In 1969, President Richard Nixon appointed her as the United States' representative to the United Nations. In 1974, she was appointed US ambassador to Ghana.

In 2006, Temple was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Screen Actors Guild.

She passed away on February 10, 2014 at the age of 85.
