Emmanuel Macron: It is too early to say whether I will be a candidate
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed today, Thursday, that the issue of his candidacy in 2022 is premature, stressing in return that he will have to make “difficult decisions” to get out of the Covid-19 crisis.
"It is too early to say for sure," Macron said, during a visit to southwestern France, in response to a question about his possible candidacy for a second term next year, stressing his determination to "process matters to the end."
"I will have to make decisions, some of which are about getting up and some that are difficult" in order for the last year of my five-year term to be beneficial.
The French president reviewed the current topics from youth, to the environment, to vaccination, answering questions from 30 retirees who gathered in a party hall in a tourist town of 1,700 people.
The meeting came with the approach of regional elections on June 20 and 27, and less than a year before the presidential elections.
He also called on young people in particular to “be careful and not to have a catastrophic view of things. The morale of a country depends on the way things are viewed.”
