Cyprus chooses Anita Demetriou, the first woman to head the House of Representatives
In their first meeting since the May 30 parliamentary elections, Cypriot deputies chose Anita Demetriou for the Presidency of the House of Representatives, becoming the first ever woman to hold the position in the country.
Demetriou, 35, is a lawmaker from the ruling center-right Daisy party, to which Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades belongs, according to Bloomberg News.
Demetriou was chosen in the second round of voting, and she is also the youngest person to be chosen for the position.
