Britney Spears: 13 years I pretend I'm okay
Famous American singer Britney Spears has apologized to her fans for not sharing the trauma she experienced as a result of the guardianship that has dominated her life since 2008.
In her first public statement since she testified in court on Wednesday, Spears was quoted by Britain's BA Media as saying that she had been pretending everything was fine because she was embarrassed to share with her fans what she had been going through since 2008.
Spears has asked the court to end what she described as an "abusive" guardianship that restricted her life and career.
She also revealed that the court-ordered settlement requires her to use a birth control device and prevents her from marrying her boyfriend, Sam Asgari.
On her official Instagram page, Spears, 39, shared a quote about the importance of fairy tales with her fans and said her optimistic social media posts had given millions of fans a false impression of her life.
Asgari, a 27-year-old friend of Spears, shared a video on his Instagram page, apparently showing the couple on a private plane.
During the sensational court hearing, Spears said that custody - which she has been in since 2008 after suffering a series of mental breakdowns - forced her to work, describing it as sex trafficking.
The pop star has asked the judge to end guardianship without further medical evaluation and has criticized her father, Jamie, who has been her guardian for the past 13 years.
Spears' legal team must now file a formal petition with the court.
