Two Producers: James Bond films will remain in theaters despite the Amazon deal
James Bond film producers said in a statement to Variety on Wednesday that the films will remain in theaters despite Amazon.com's acquisition of Metro Golden Mayer (MGM), the franchise owner of the popular adventure film series.
Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael J. Wilson, who run London-based Eon Productions, said in the statement, "We are committed to continuing to make James Bond films available to movie audiences around the world."
The James Bond franchise is by far the most important asset of MGM, which struck a $ 8.45 billion deal with Amazon on Wednesday that gives Amazon TV and Live the right to access to a massive library of movies and TV shows.
MGM says that James Bond films have made about $ 7 billion in cinemas worldwide.
The new movie in this series, "No Time To Die", or (No Time to Die) is expected to be released in cinemas in September after several delays due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
This will be the fifth and final installment in which actor Daniel Craig takes on the role of a British secret agent. It has not yet been decided who will succeed him in this task.
