This step came after the tragic explosion in Beirut Port in 2020 due to the explosion of hundreds of tons of "ammonium nitrate".

Combi Lift CEO Heiko Wilderhof said the containers would be destroyed in Germany.

Where 59 containers were transferred to the vessel, which will set sail at the end of next week.

Said Elias Aswad, Chairman of the Lebanese-German Business Council. The project removed from the port "all toxic, carcinogenic, flammable and highly reactive chemicals that have been stored here for decades."

He also indicated that the company is tasked with processing "only 49 containers of hazardous materials".

He explained that "15 other containers will be disposed of" in a safe and environmentally friendly manner in their places ", without giving further details.

Michael Ventler, a chemical expert, said he had "never seen a situation like this before" in his life, describing the mixture of chemicals that created gaps in shipping containers.
