Canada: No tolerance of Islamophobia or anti-Semitism
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denounced the acts of violence and anti-Semitic and anti-Islam words that were launched during demonstrations that took place over the weekend in a number of cities in the country, especially in Toronto, where clashes erupted between pro-Palestinian protesters and others in solidarity with Israel.
Trudeau emphasized "the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression in Canada," stressing in a tweet on "Twitter" that he is not at all in the process of tolerating "anti-Semitism, anti-Islam, or hatred."
The Prime Minister condemned the “fiercely humiliating statements and violence that we witnessed during the demonstrations” that took place in a number of cities in the country. Trudeau's tweet came after police in Toronto used tear gas, following clashes between pro-Palestinian demonstrators and others supporting the Hebrew state.
Teams of riot police intervened and fired tear gas to separate the demonstrators from the two groups and disperse them.
