American child writer Eric Carle dies, at the age of 91
The Penguin Kids publishing house said on Twitter that American children's writer and illustrator Eric Carle, best known for his classic story The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has died at the age of 91.
The Washington Post, citing a statement from his family, reported that Carl died at his home in Northampton, Massachusetts.
The newspaper did not mention the cause of death.
His work has grown to more than 70 titles and has sold more than 152 million copies around the world in dozens of languages, according to Penguin.
The Very Hungry Maggot was published in 1969 and the publishing house said it has been translated into 66 languages and has sold more than 50 million copies.
