Ada Tsang Yin-hung, a woman from Hong Kong, breaks the record for fastest female climb on Everest Hong Kong mountaineer Tsang Yin-Hang set the record for the fastest woman in the world to reach the summit of Everest, in just under 26 hours, a Nepalese official announced Thursday.

Tsang, 44, climbed the 8,848,86-meter mountain in a record time of 25 hours and 50 minutes on Sunday, said official Gyanendra Shrestha.

"I left the base camp at 1:20 p.m. Saturday and reached the summit at 10:15 p.m. the next day," Shrestha told AFP.

He added that Tsang has yet to submit her request to the Guinness Book of Records officials to obtain her certificate of completion.

The government of Nepal certifies that climbers have reached the summit but does not issue certificates for records.

Tsang and her campaign organizers on their way to Kathmandu have yet to comment.

The Nepalese Vongo Jangmo Lama was the fastest woman to reach the summit of Everest in 39 hours and 6 minutes.

In 2017, Tsang became the first woman from Hong Kong to reach the summit. It was her third attempt to climb the summit in the Himalayas.

Nepal has issued a record 408 permits to climb Mount Everest for the current climbing season after last year's season was canceled due to the pandemic.
