Jurgen Klopp: We made wholesale defensive mistakes ... and we don't deserve to win against Real Madrid
German coach Juergen Klopp, Liverpool's coach, confirmed that his team does not deserve to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League.
"First of all, we don't deserve to win," Klopp said at the post-match press conference. "We did not play well enough and this is what worries me. The first half was bad and it gave us a lot of balls and that didn't help us."
He added: "We made the match very easy for Real Madrid. Madrid's goals came from defensive mistakes. I did not like the performance in the first half, and our decisions were wrong. Yes, Trent made a mistake, but we gave them opportunities to take advantage of mistakes and use speeds."
He continued: "If you want to go to the semi-finals, you have to win hard. We did not do that tonight. We did not play good football that causes them problems, and the only good thing remains is we scored a goal."
Liverpool lost to Real Madrid 3-1 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
