The launch of a health passport in China
China launched a digital passport, which proves the health status of its citizens, while traveling to and from abroad.
The digital certificate showing whether the holder had received the vaccine or not was available in addition to the results of the Corona virus test. For Chinese citizens, through a program on the Chinese social networking platform "WeChat" launched by the country on Monday.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "This document was launched with the aim of helping to promote global economic recovery and facilitate cross-border travel." However, this international “health passport” is currently only available to Chinese citizens and it is not yet mandatory.
It is believed that the certificate, also available on paper, is the first known "vaccine passport" in the world. The United States and Britain are among the countries that are currently considering issuing similar permits.
The European Union is also working on issuing a "green passport" that would allow its citizens to travel between and outside member states.
And the new China News Agency "Xinhua" stated that the China program includes a quick response code that allows every country to obtain health information for travelers.
