Norwegian police opened an investigation into Prime Minister Erna Solberg's celebration of her birthday.
According to the media, "Solberg" brought her family together at the "Geilo" ski resort to celebrate her 60th birthday at the end of last February. In violation of restrictions and recommendations to limit social interactions.
Thirteen members of the Solberg family ate dinner in a restaurant on February 25, in her absence, because she had to go to the hospital due to eye problems. Although the rules limit the number of people attending a private event in a public place, the number does not exceed 10.
Then the Prime Minister and her relatives violated another recommendation the next day to collect 14 people, 4 more than the maximum.
The reports sparked an uproar on social media, with some calling for her to resign. The police said in a statement on Friday: “Against the background of the information that has emerged, along with the statements of the Prime Minister herself. The police decided to start an investigation related to a possible violation of the Infectious Diseases Act. ”
She added, "The matter will then be evaluated by the public prosecution authority," referring to a possible legal punishment.
The Prime Minister also issued a statement on her Facebook page. In it she said: "I am sorry that my family and I violated the Corona regulations ... and this should never have happened .. Of course we should have followed all the recommendations, as I asked you to do."
She added, “I understand those who get angry and disappointed about this. I made a mistake and that is why I want to say that I am sorry. ”
