Lyudmila Hajjar, an "Arab doctor", rejects Bolsonaro's offer to take over the Brazilian Ministry of Health

Cardiologist of Arab origin, Lyudmila Hajjar, made a decision to refuse to assume the responsibility of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, after its name was mentioned strongly on the scene after its candidacy by President Jair Bolsonaro, to enter the new cabinet change to succeed General Eduardo Pazuelo. According to "Sky News Arabia".

Lyudmila Hajjar, an "Arab doctor", rejects Bolsonaro's offer to take over the Brazilian Ministry of Health

Ludmila Hajjar is of Arab descent with a father of Syrian roots and a mother of Lebanese origin. She works as a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of São Paulo, and practices medicine in the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in the same city, and is considered one of the most prestigious hospitals in Latin America.

The newspaper pointed out, that President Bolsonaro was ready to replace Lyudmila, who replaced Eduardo Pazuelo as Minister of Health, and he actually met her last Sunday at Palacio da Alvorada to discuss her assumption of the ministry, but the conversation did not reach a decisive conclusion.

Lyudmila is known for its position in support of social isolation, as a means to combat the spread of the emerging epidemic, and has previously criticized the use of chloroquine as a treatment for the virus, and these positions directly contradict what the Brazilian president has called for since the beginning of the epidemic. Nevertheless, her choice as Minister of Health would have been in the interest of the Brazilian government, because it is widely accepted in the higher political and legal circles, and with her presence in the ministry, Bolsonaro would have obtained the support of Congress and the judiciary in managing the epidemic.

Lyudmila enjoys the sympathy of influential progressive politicians, and this was evident in Mayor San Paolo Arthur Lyra welcoming her nomination for the ministry. She refused to take the position, but two other names were nominated: Cardiologist Marcelo Quiroga and Federal Representative Luis Antonio Teixeira Jr.
