Bitcoin mining ... a threat to the environment on the planet
"The amount of electricity used in Bitcoin mining actually exceeds the amount used by entire countries."
This is what Benjamin Jones, a professor of economics at the University of New Mexico, told the Guardian.
Who added: “The increased electricity consumption of cryptocurrency mining threatens“ zero emissions ”.
"We are talking about several terawatts, tens of terabytes per year, which are only used for mining Bitcoin," the specialist said.
The world urged countries to take measures to regulate cryptocurrency mining.
But with Bitcoin still being considered the largest cryptocurrency, and with the support it keeps getting from established companies and investment banks.
It is likely to continue to be relied upon, and thus to have an increasing negative impact on the environment.
