"The United States stands with the people of Burma, who demand the restoration of the democratically elected government," Blinken wrote in a tweet on Twitter.


He added, "Today's rankings are another step to enhance accountability of military leaders who commit acts of violence and try to suppress the will of the people."


Today, Tuesday, the US Treasury Department announced the imposition of sanctions on 2 generals of the Myanmar army, following the military coup.


While the social networking site "Facebook" announced the blocking of the page of the official Myanmar TV, which is controlled by the putschists, and also deleted the main page of the army, citing its standards that prohibit incitement to violence.


This comes a day after protesters were killed when police opened fire on a demonstration against the February 1 coup.


A Facebook representative said, in a statement: "In line with our global policies, we have removed the Myanmar Army Information Team page from Facebook due to repeated breaches of our community standards prohibiting incitement to violence and coordinating harm."


Violent protests erupted in Myanmar after two people were killed and others wounded by police bullets in a demonstration against the military coup in Myanmar, which led to the condemnation of the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and to Washington's expression of its concern.
