A plane carrying Russian opposition Alexei Navalny landed at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow on Sunday evening, after diverting from Vnukovo Airport, where hundreds of his supporters gathered to greet him.

Police arrested a number of people at Vnukovo airport and dispersed a crowd from the airport hall. Navalny’s supporters chanted "Russia will be liberated," as they chanted on his name.

Navalny announced his intention to return to Russia, although the authorities confirmed their intention to arrest him upon his arrival to the country, for violating the terms of suspending the execution of his prison sentence issued against him previously for fraud.

On August 20, the Russian dissident was transferred in a coma to a hospital in the Russian city of Omsk, after his health suddenly deteriorated when he was on a plane flying from Tomsk to Moscow.

A few days later, the Russian government agreed, at the request of the Navalny family, to transfer him to Germany, and Berlin later announced the discovery of evidence that the exhibitors had been poisoned with the use of Novichok.

Moscow categorically denies these allegations, stressing that "the tests that the exhibitors underwent in Omsk did not reveal traces of any toxic substances in his body."
