Robert Rowland, a former member of the European Parliament from the British Independence Party, died by drowning in the Bahamas
A former member of the European Parliament of the Brexit party died in a diving accident near his home in the Bahamas at the age of 54.
Robert Rowland, southeast England, was represented in the European Parliament from July 2019 until January 2020, in the British Independence Party headed by Nigel Farage.
Farage praised the "larger-than-life character" - as he described Roland, an "enthusiastic" Brexit supporter, before announcing the death of his former colleague in a statement on Sunday.
The Royal Bahamas Police said they "received reports of drowning" on Saturday and were "conducting investigations".
Farage said, "It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Robert Rowland, after a diving accident near his home in the Bahamas.
And after a successful career in town, Robert was an avid Brexit party member and bigger than life personality.
He said he wished to extend his "sincere condolences" to Mr. Rowland's family, including his wife and four children.
David Ball, a former member of the European Parliament from the Brexit party, said he was "very broken", adding, "Robert was a great friend and colleague."
