Dodge: Hellcat V8s will soon be discontinued and the move to electric cars
The CEO of Doug confirmed in his statements that the company's famous 6.2-liter V8 SportCharged engine is now numbered, and the reason is the high costs of upgrading the engine to meet the most stringent carbon emissions regulations, and not because of a lack of demand for it.
The CEO explained that the company has sold more than 50,000 cars with Hellcat engines in the past five years, although these are impressive numbers given that the Challenger SRT Hecate 2021 and the Durango SRT Hellcat 2021 are now starting to sell.
The Dodge boss also added that the engine will be phased out, and this indicates that the automaker's general trend toward electricity now will reduce demand for it in the future, and this is not the first time that regulations have threatened muscle cars.
The president of Dodge stressed that it is worrying that history will repeat itself, because it is known that muscle cars took many decades to revive again, and become high-performance cars today, and it is known that Dodge will have electric models in the future, and it will dispense with V8 engines as well.
