CIA Director Gina Haspel resigns
The Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency, Gina Haspel, announced today, Tuesday, that she is resigning from her post.
According to the American "Forbes" magazine, Haspel said in a statement published by the CIA on its Twitter account: "It was the greatest honor in my life to lead this wonderful organization."
The magazine stated that Haspel has not yet explained the reason for her resignation, which comes on the last day of Trump's presidency of the United States.
But last week, Axios revealed that Haspel had threatened to resign in early December, when Trump sought to appoint Cash Patel, a Trump loyalist and former aide, as its deputy or caretaker.
According to Axios, Trump "spent his last year in office contemplating sacking Haspel," while several of his allies spoke of doubts about her loyalty to him.
The site revealed that it had documents confirming the issuance of Trump's directives to his White House office manager, Mark Widows, last December to initiate the procedures for assigning Cash Battle to take on the work of the CIA director.
