The newspaper stated that "the process of recovering the first nine workers took place around 3:15 pm this afternoon, according to local time." By rescue teams, in an operation for which the authorities recruited about 600 people a few days ago, working around the clock for this.

Aid workers, however, managed to communicate with two other workers trapped in the mine. They were brought out unharmed within the next hours.

The breakthrough occurred after rescue workers removed a huge boulder that was a major obstacle. It plunged deep into the mine, leaving a gap sufficient to advance steps in the recovery of trapped workers.

The gold mine exploded in Xixia, in the eastern province of Shandong, on January 10, causing all ports to be blocked in the face of 22 workers inside. They were stuck since then until 11 of them were taken out this Sunday afternoon. The death of one worker is confirmed, while the fate of 10 others is not known yet.
