American transport companies suspend their flights to Washington due to security concerns
The Russian "Sputnik" correspondent in Washington said that many American transportation companies, including the "Grayhound" and "Mega Baid" bus service, have stopped their flights on the roads leading to Washington, DC, between January 17 and 20, due to security concerns.
Earlier, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, who chairs the oversight committee, was reported to have sent letters to various bus and rental car service companies, as well as hotels, asking for help in preventing potential accidents in the days leading up to the January 20 opening. President-elect Joe Biden is among the companies. The one that received messages like this is Megabus, Grayhound, Boltbus, Peter Pan, Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott.
"The Washington DC Union station will be closed from Sunday 17 January to Wednesday 20 January due to the inauguration activities of (President-elect Joe Biden)," Grayhound said on its website.
A spokesman for "Megabus" said a similar statement to "Sputnik", adding that it is only possible to reach Baltimore at present.
This comes against the backdrop of the storming of a group of supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump on January 6, building the US Capitol, causing damage and sabotage on a large scale, and killing five people. Washington, DC beefed up security in the wake of the attack to prevent an accident during the installation.
