France imposes a huge fine on Google and Amazon
The French data privacy regulator, "CNIL HG", imposed today, Thursday. A fine for two Google units totaling 100 million euros. The Amazon subsidiary is 35 million euros, due to advertising cookies.
The regulator said that "the fines were due to placing advertising cookies on users' computers ... without obtaining prior approval and without providing sufficient information," according to ABC News.
A cookie is a small piece of data stored on a user's computer browser. Which allows websites to identify users and remember their past activities, according to Al-Bayan newspaper.
