For the first time .. Biden nominates a woman to take over the position of Deputy Secretary of Defense of the United States .. Who is Kathleen Hicks?
Today, Wednesday, US President-elect Joe Biden announced the nomination of a former US Defense Department official, Kathleen Hicks, for the post of Deputy Secretary of Defense for the first time in the history of the United States.
Biden's transition team revealed that Colin Cale, who served as Biden's national security advisor when he was Vice President Barack Obama, is Biden's candidate for the position of Under Secretary of Defense for policy.
"These respected civilian leaders will help lead the Department of Defense with integrity and determination, protect the lives and interests of the American people and ensure that our most sacred obligations are fulfilled," Biden said in a statement.
He added, "Dr. Cath Hicks and Dr. Colin Cale have the vast experience and professionalism in the crises necessary to help address the range of challenges we face today, and all the challenges we may face tomorrow."
Hicks served in the administration of former US President Barack Obama, and was chosen by the Senate in 2012 as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. She also held the position of Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Plans and Forces, and is the first American candidate for this position.
