Prices of the Russian Corona virus vaccine "Sputnik" around the world
Russia announced, today, Tuesday, that the Sputnik-V vaccine against the Corona virus will be available free of charge to Russian citizens, while it will be sold at a "symbolic" price in the global markets.
The developers of the Corona virus vaccine, Sputnik-V, said that the vaccine will be offered at a price of less than 20 dollars per person in the global markets, stressing that Moscow aims to produce more than a billion doses of it at home and abroad during the next year.
A statement posted on the vaccine page on Twitter stated that it consists of two injections, each of which costs less than $ 20, and that it will be available free of charge to Russian citizens. The announcement of the price of the vaccine comes at a time when Russia is looking to arrange the expansion of its production and distribution.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia's sovereign wealth fund, said Moscow and its foreign partners have the capacity to produce more than a billion doses of starting from next year, enough to immunize more than 500 million people.
The price of the vaccine, which will be produced by Pfizer and Biontec, will be 15.5 euros per injection, while the vaccine AstraZeneca is working to produce in Europe will sell for about 2.5 euros per injection.
Dmitriev told Reuters that Moscow had deliberately sought to lower the price in order to make it available to the largest possible number of people around the world.
Russia confirmed, on Tuesday, that its "Sputnik-V" vaccine against the emerging corona virus, developed by the Gamalia Research Center in Moscow, is 95 percent effective.
A statement issued by the center, the Russian Ministry of Health, and the Russian sovereign fund participating in the development of the vaccine indicated that these are preliminary results of experiments on volunteers 42 days after the injection of the first dose.
However, the statement did not mention the number of cases used to calculate the effectiveness rate, as did, for example, the US companies Pfizer and Our Company, when the results of their vaccines were announced a few days ago. According to Sky News.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told the G20 leaders, last Saturday, that Russia is ready to provide the Corona virus, "Sputnik-V", to any country that needs it.
