The Corona pandemic has reduced the number of films participating in the Cairo Film Festival in half.
Festival president Mohamed Hefzy announced in a press conference that the number of films has been reduced to 84, compared to nearly 150 films last year.
The producer and screenwriter explained that the festival, like all other festivals in the world, "faces exceptional circumstances and great challenges" this year, and said that "very few festivals have been able to hold its sessions," and pointed out that "our role as the Cairo Film Festival is to continue despite the challenges and circumstances, as long as the necessary precautions are taken." .
During the conference in which he talked about the program of the festival in its forty-second session, which will start next month, Hefzy said that the symbol of the festival will be inspired by the legend of Isis and Osiris, and that 43 countries will participate with 84 films.
The festival will award the "Golden Pyramid" (Lifetime Achievement Award) to writer and screenwriter Wahid Hamed, and the Faten Hamama Award for Excellence, by Mona Zaki.
Hefzy announced that for the first time, a foreign figure, British writer Christopher Hampton, will be honored.
The festival will feature "The Father", a British-French co-production directed by Florian Zeller and starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman.
The festival commemorates the centenary of the birth of the Italian director Federico Fellini by showing four restored films of his work in addition to a documentary film about him entitled (Fellini's Souls).
