China intends to reduce tariffs

Chinese President Xi Jinping revealed today that his country will continue to reduce its customs duties and expand imports of advanced products and commodities. At the same time, he pledged to push forward reforms and support an innovation-based growth model.

"We will continue to reduce customs duties and institutional costs ... and expand imports of advanced products and services from all countries," he added, in a video call while participating in the CEO discussions of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

The speech comes ahead of the summit of the leaders of the group, which will be held on Friday via the Internet and discuss the future of international cooperation.

"China will continue to grow with higher quality through its development model, which is based on technological innovation," Shi said, according to Reuters.

He noted that China will conclude free trade agreements with more countries. It will promote the Belt and Road Initiative in a high quality manner.
