The next generation of Apple's HomePod will come with a 7-inch screen for the first time
Ming-Chi Kuo - Apple News Analyst - presented his latest report on the upcoming Apple HomePod that is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2024. The device is said to have a 7-inch display for the first time and was marked as a major shift in Apple's smart home strategy. The new display will allow for more functionality for smart home devices and deeper integration with Apple's ecosystem of devices.
Tianma Microelectronics will be the exclusive supplier of next-generation HomePod displays. Kuo also mentions that Tianma may take orders for Apple iPad screens in the future. Rumors from last year also spoke of Apple's plans to launch a tvOS-powered HomePod. The Apple HomePod 2024 will also provide FaceTime capabilities via a built-in camera in addition to acting as a smart home speaker.
In 2021, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was the first to suggest that Apple is working on new HomePod models with displays and cameras. It's also been reported that Apple is working on multi-touch functionality for the HomePod. In the long term, it is believed that Apple is rethinking its smart home strategy. It is said to work on an Apple TV and HomePod combined, as well as a HomePod with a screen mounted on a robotic arm. HomePod is already running a different version of tvOS. But there are some indications that Apple is working on a new homeOS platform.
