Blonde movie.. Marilyn Monroe rape scene angers the audience
Netflix viewers have expressed so much disgust with Marilyn Monroe's new movie "Blond" that it never finished.
According to the British "Yahoo" website, the film, which was recently released by Netflix, sparked controversy, as the public criticized it strongly.
"Blond," starring Ana de Armas, directed by Andrew Dominic, and based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, is a fictional story about the traumatic and conflictual life of Marilyn Monroe, as Monroe was the victim of abuse, violence, rape and forced abortion.
Viewers agreed that de Armas's performance was great, but were often united in the other opinion that the film is unwatchable.
Many of those who watched Blonde felt that the inclusion of only a 20-minute rape scene in the nearly three-hour film was so unjustified and offensive that they could not continue watching it.
One person tweeted: "I tried to watch Blond and couldn't stand it for more than about 20 minutes, those 20 minutes were nothing but heartbreaking, absolutely unwatchable."
Another added, "I watched Blonde for 20 minutes and now I'm vomiting."
One viewer wrote: "I started and closed the Blond movie in record time, blatant rape on screen is by no means a meaningful way to depict the horrors of sexual assault, please, I beg you to leave this woman alone."
Viewers expressed anger at director Dominic for his depiction of the rape scene, with one tweeting: "Maybe we stop letting misogynistic men try to make movies about female characters they know nothing about."
Another commented, "Can we all make a collective pact to leave Marilyn Monroe alone from now on? She's been chased in life and now chased in death."
Most viewers agreed that de Armas did an admirable job portraying Monroe, but they felt the film had let them down as a whole.
