Will Smith resigns from the Academy after slapping Chris Rock
Actor Will Smith has resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Academy Awards, due to the fact that he slapped actor Chris Rock during the Academy Awards ceremony, on Sunday.
Smith said, in a statement, that he would "resign from the Academy" and added that he "accept all the consequences" of his behavior, and continued: "My actions at the Oscars were shocking, painful and unjustified," according to the BBC.
"The list of people I've hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dearest friends and loved ones, all in-home audiences and fans," actor Will Smith said.
Last Wednesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it had "initiated disciplinary action" against Smith
The Academy said, in a statement, that "Smith was asked to leave the party after the incident, but he refused," and described Smith's actions as a "traumatic incident in violation of the standards of conduct."
