Kim Kardashian helps evacuate 130 Afghan girls to Britain
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and Andrea Radrizzani, owner of English soccer club Leeds United, helped ex-Afghan national team captain Khaleda Popal relocate 130 Afghan women soccer players and their families from Pakistan to Britain on Thursday. Copenhagen-based Bhopal oversaw efforts to evacuate the players from Afghanistan after the Taliban seized control of the country last August. Bhopal said in a tweet that Kardashian and her shapewear brand paid for the flight that transported the players, some of whom were in their teens.
"We are honored that we did our part" in the efforts to evacuate the players, Radrizzani said in a statement on Twitter.
Popal noted that New York Rabbi Moshe Margaretten was involved in the transfer efforts as well.
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Kim Kardashian and her brand for their generous donation and all the travel expenses," Bhopal wrote on Twitter. Bhopal also thanked Radrizzani for his participation in evacuating the players.
The International Professional Football Association expressed its appreciation for Bhopal's efforts in transporting the players out of Afghanistan.
