After the "tragedy" of the movie (Rust).. Dwayne Johnson announces a decisive decision about the use of real weapons
Actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has vowed to stop using real firearms during filming, after the tragic killing of a film director by Alec Baldwin's shot from a pistol during filming, two weeks ago.
Dwayne Johnson said he was "heartbroken" about the death of director of photography Helena Hutchins on the set of "Rust", a tragedy that prompted him to reconsider the use of firearms while filming productions for his company, Seven Pax Productions.
And the 49-year-old American star explained, in an interview with "Variety" magazine: "What happened took a life. I can only speak for myself, but I can say, without a doubt, that we will completely stop using real weapons in all films." The TV series and the various productions that we will be working on at Seven Pax Productions.”
From now on, the company will use plastic weapons and use the necessary special effects in the post-production stage, according to AFP.
And whether that would mean more costs, Johnson, one of Hollywood's highest-paid actors, said: "We don't care about the cost issue."
A real bullet accidentally fired by Alec Baldwin after receiving a pistol the actor was told was unloaded fatally wounded Hutchins on October 21, before resting on the shoulder of film director Joel Sousa.
Johnson, a longtime friend of Baldwin, called for new safety protocols and measures in the film industry, adding: "It's awful that we need this to happen for things to start changing."
