Derek Chauvin, "Floyd's killer" .. The policeman who "angered" America is appealing the verdict against him Ex-US policeman Derek Chauvin has appealed his prison sentence for the 2020 murder of black American George Floyd, according to court documents released Thursday.

Chauvin, who was sentenced in June to more than 22 years in prison for killing Floyd by kneeling on his neck for nearly 10 minutes, appealed the conviction Thursday night in Minnesota District Court, the last day he was able to do so.

He accuses the state of biased behavior and lists several problems with the jury chosen for trial, among other objections.

The commission's decision on April 20 was met with great satisfaction in the country, which was afraid of the return of protests if Chauvin came out free after the hearings.

On May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, Chauvin wanted to arrest Floyd on suspicion of using a counterfeit $ 20 bill to buy cigarettes, so he and 3 of his colleagues held him on the ground while he was handcuffed, before kneeling on his neck.

The policeman remained in this state for about 10 minutes, indifferent to Floyd's moaning and the pleas of stunned passersby, even after the forty-year-old lost consciousness.

Soon, a video of the scene, filmed by a girl, went viral and sparked massive protests around the world.

Chauvin has always maintained that he followed the established procedures of the police to control a suspect who refused to obey.

The judicial file did not stop at Chauvin's trial, as his three colleagues will be tried in March 2022 on charges of "complicity in murder" in a Minnesota court.
