Barcelona resort to the judiciary to prevent the transfer of Lionel Messi to Paris Saint Germain
Reports said that Barcelona's legal team will prevent Paris Saint-Germain from signing former Barca star Lionel Messi.
And reports confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain is close to officially signing Lionel Messi after the end of his contract with Barcelona and announcing the failure of his renewal negotiations last Thursday, noting that the Argentine captain will turn into a Parisian player within a few hours with a two-season contract.
The British newspaper "Daily Mail" quoted the Spanish "Marca" in a report (Monday) that the legal administration of Barcelona believes that Paris cannot include Messi because this would constitute a fraud and a violation of the Financial Fair Play regulations of the European Football Association (UEFA).
The newspaper pointed out that the legal department of Barcelona submitted a complaint to the European Court of Appeal, confirming that Paris Saint-Germain could not, due to its financial position, include Leo.
For his part, Spanish lawyer Juan Branco confirmed the complaint with a tweet on the social networking site "Twitter", in which he said: "On behalf of the partners in FC Barcelona, my office has prepared a complaint with the European Commission in order to suspend the transfer of Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain."
Branko stressed that "Paris Saint-Germain's rates in fair financial play are worse than its counterpart in Barcelona," noting that the percentage of salaries in the Paris club's budget in the 2019-2020 season amounted to 99% of the club's budget, compared to 54% for Barca only in the same season, before it gets worse later.
The complaint relied on the huge salaries that Paris pays to its old stars such as Neymar da Silva, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria, or newcomers Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ashraf Hakimi and Gigi Wijnaldum.
Note that the main reason why Messi did not renew his contract at Camp Nou despite the agreement with Barca on the renewal is the budget for the players' salaries in Barcelona, which would have seen a deficit if Messi renewed even after waiving 50% of his salary.
It is noteworthy that Messi stressed during a press conference on Sunday that he had not yet determined his next destination, despite many reports linking him to Paris Saint-Germain, stressing that more than one club had contacted him to join him, one of which was the French club.
