The animated film Spirit Untamed, which starts showing on June 4, transports us to the atmosphere of the American West and Mexican heritage, it does justice to innocence, spontaneity and freedom, and relies mainly on starring girls and people of color, but it was less than expectations, perhaps due to a lack of budget, and with all it is a suitable movie For the whole family in those days that witness the beginning of the cinema breakthrough after the Corona crisis.

When Dreamworks' Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron came out nearly 20 years ago, critics praised the film for its stunning animation and skillful incorporation of traditional 2D graphics and modern 3D technology.

The wild keger of the American West was admired by many, both bloodthirsty white colonists and indigenous peoples. Light on dialogue and heavy with touching musical cues (Bryan Adams to be exact), the film's simplicity makes it distinctive and emotionally resonant.

In the sequel, Spirit Untamed, the production company abandons traditional graphics in favor of 3D technology, and adopts more detailed narrative threads.

Unfortunately, the results are somewhat disappointing, because the sequel doesn't have the charm of the original movie, nor the freshness and glamor of competing animations like Disney's Raya and The Last Dragon.

In fact, the animation didn't keep up with the epic narration of the story, apparently due to the film's low budget, which affected its level.

The new movie is cute at best and forgettable at worst, and is likely to appeal to children under the age of ten.

The plot revolves around Lucky Prescott (Isabella Merced, the heroine of Dora and the Lost City of Gold), who never knew her late mother, Milagro Navarro, who was daring, brave and skilled on horseback riding in the small town of Miradero on the edge of the wide-open border with Mexico.

Like her mother, Lucky was not a fan of the rules and restrictions, which caused her aunt Cora (Academy Award winner Julianne Moore) to worry.

Aunt remains the watchful eye for her niece Lucky in her East Coast home, but when Lucky's naughty and perilous adventures grow, Cora decides to send her back to live with her father in Miradero.

At first, Lucky doesn't like the quiet little town, but her heart and her whole life change when she meets Spirit, a wild horse with whom she shares independence, daring and untamedness, and they develop a unique friendship.

Lucky befriends two local horse riders, Abigail Stone (McKenna Grace) and Prue Granger (Marsai Martin), whose father is Lucky's father's best friend.

Things escalate when ruthless horse herder Amy Walton plots to capture Spirit and his flock, and auction them off to spend the rest of their lives in captivity and hard labour.

Lucky enlists the help of her new friends and bravely embarks on an adventure to save the horse that gave her freedom and made her life meaning and purpose. This adventure helped young Lucky discover her connection to her mother's legacy and her Mexican heritage that she had never expected.

In fact, we expected a certain quality from the studio that produced "Kung Fu Panda" and "How to Tam the Dragon", but the result was not up to expectations.

The soul is still soul-like, but neither the horse nor the girl (voiced by Isabella Merced) has much character, while the plot is less complex than the audience might expect.

On the other hand, the heroes are the girls Lucky and her friends Abigail and Prue, which is a step in the right direction towards redress for the girls, and the heroes are of non-white skin which is a positive trend.

In the same context, the film lacks depth in drawing the character, although it is not without entertainment and beautiful landscapes, and is credited with its compatibility with the innocent spirit of the children, making it the first entertainment choice for the whole family in those days.

The film is directed by Ellen Bogan and stars Julianne Moore, Isabella Merced, Milagro Navarro, Jake Gyllanhaal, McKenna Grace.
