British sprinter Mo Farah fails to qualify for Tokyo Olympics
British sprinter Mo Farah failed to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, so he will not be able to defend his Olympic title in the ten thousandth race.
The British news agency "BA Media" reported that the four-time Olympic champion failed to achieve the Olympic time in the 10,000 meters race at the British Athletics Championships, only to suffer a painful blow in Manchester.
Farah needed to finish the race in less than 27 minutes and 28 seconds to reserve a place on the plane bound for Tokyo before the closing time set for it on Sunday evening.
But, with a time of 27 minutes 47.04 seconds, he will not defend his ten thousand meters title, which he won in 2012 and 2016.
"I tried to push hard, I tried to do anything," said Farah, the Olympic champion in the 5,000-meter race.
"That's all you can do as human beings, give your all," he added. I had a great run. I am very grateful. That was all I had today.”
The race was quickly arranged, after Farah failed to qualify during the 10,000m trials in Birmingham earlier this month.
This is the first time that Farah has lost the ten thousand meters race in a decade, as he decided to return to track racing, after focusing on marathons since 2017.
